TABIA Requests Update on Ontario’s Small Business Support Grants

Dear Hon. Minister Fedeli,
I am writing you today regarding the status of Ontario’s Small Business Support Grants. It has been fifty days since Premier Ford’s initial announcement, and twenty-five days since the opening of the application portal.
Your application page states that successful applicants will receive funding within ten business days of applying, yet TABIA continues to hear from our collective membership of over 90,000 Toronto businesses that no updates have been shared to date. Including whether successfully submitted applications have been approved.
TABIA suggests the following recommendations:
- Provide further clarity on when businesses can expect to receive funds in their accounts.
- Provide clear notification on whether a businesses’ application is approved or not.
I would be reminisced if I did not acknowledge the benefit of a support grant opposed to a loan that would only further contribute to the mountain of debt businesses have incurred to survive this pandemic. Thank you for that.
TABIA, Toronto’s eighty-five Business Improvement Areas, and their members are counting on your government’s commitment to supporting small business during lockdown but quite frankly many are losing hope.
