The City of Toronto StreetARToronto (StART) program is a suite of innovative programs designed specifically for streets and public spaces. Initiated in 2012 as part of the City of Toronto Graffiti Management Plan, StART has been successful in working with street, mural and graffiti artists, cultural producers, Non-Profit Organizations, local residents and businesses to co-create vibrant, colourful, community-engaged street, mural and graffiti art. StART programs encourage active transportation (walking and cycling), make our streets more beautiful and safe, showcase local artists, mentor emerging artists and reduce overall infrastructure maintenance costs. Individually and collectively StART street art works are designed to celebrate the City of Toronto motto Diversity Our Strength and foster a greater sense of belonging among all.
