The Michael Comstock Community Builder award is awarded annually at the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Area’s award night to individuals who have demonstrated tremendous commitment within the Business Improvement Area realm.
Four individuals have received the award since its inception in 2013. See below for more details on each recipient.
2013 City of Toronto Council
Awarded for their continued support of Toronto’s BIAs
2014 Amy Chow, Danforth Village BIA
“The Danforth BIA would be a far less successful BIA without the leadership, energy and vision that Amy has contributed over the years.” Susan Puff – Executive Director of the Danforth Village BIA
Amy has served on the Danforth Village BIA Board of Directors for nine years until stepping down in 2014
The Danforth BIA would be a far less successful BIA without the leadership, energy and vision that Amy has contributed over the years. As a member of the Board and then Board Chair, Amy was relentless in fighting for the business members in this BIA. As a property owner and business owner, she understood the challenges of operating a successful independent business in the area. She fostered lasting relationships with key city representatives, members of police services, TABIA, suppliers and neighbouring BIAs.
For three years leading up to Amy’s resignation she continued to contribute her time, wisdom, and energy to this BIA while fighting a very difficult on-going battle with cancer. The Danforth Village BIA will forever benefit from her knowledge, input and support.
2015 Liz and Carl Porritt
Liz and Carl Porritt for their long time efforts with the Etobicoke Lakeshore Santa Claus Parade
Although the Long Branch BIA as well as Lakeshore Village BIA were the originators of the parade, it is now self-sustaining with its own board, that Liz and Carl continue to devote their time to. The pair play an instrumental part in the panning and execution of this annual event enjoyed by thousands of local residents.
2016 Don Panos
Don Panos Nov 22, 1943 – July 12, 2016
Don is the Michael Comstock Award's most recent recipient. Don has been honoured for his commitment to St. Clair Gardens BIA where he acted as chair for several years.
